“No one is coming to save us.”

Dr. Keeanga Yahmatta-Taylor

Black women are dying and no one is coming to save us. Now is the time for us to start saving ourselves. I am a labor and delivery nurse, community organizer, and birth rights activist who is deeply committed to improving birthing experiences and outcomes for black birthing people. I am currently working on my MSN in Midwifery. I practice from a social and reproductive justice lens. I believe that all birthing people should be awarded a safe and respectful place to birth their child. Birthing people are routinely mistreated during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. The chances of being mistreated are even higher if you’re black. In my work as a midwife, I am going to change that.
